The course is divided into two units:
a) French Society and Culture
b) French Literature

French Society and Culture:
An overview of the French-speaking postcolonial world; Canada and Louisiana: an overview of the regions, and Linguistic situation; Maghreb: an overview of the regions and Linguistic situation; the Caribbean; Postcolonial Africa. Students are made aware of frequent translation problems, especially culture-specific terms.

French-speaking Literature:
This course focuses on prose, poetry, and drama in the French language produced by Belgian, Canadian, and African writers.
