• regionalization of North Africa and Southwest Asia,
• historical background of the region and the impact of historical factors on the current situation in the region,
• physical geography of the region: geological development and geomorphological features, climate, hydrogeography, soils and biomes, environmental problems and challenges of natural resources use (desertification, water scarcity, climate change, etc.),
• settlement and population characteristics (population growth, migrations, ethnic, linguistic and religious characteristics, social aspects of human development) and their impact on the landscape,
• economic characteristics: the position of the region in the world economy and its economic features (agriculture and non-agricultural activities, the role of natural resources, in particular fossil fuels),
• geographical characteristics of individual parts of the region (Northwest Africa, Northeast Africa, Southwest Asia), their contemporary socio-economic problems, political issues (conflicts) and environmental challenges.
