Call for Post-Doctoral Fellows from Ukraine
Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, supported by a grant from the FLAX Foundation, seeks to hire two Post-Doctoral Fellows for a one-year appointment
The University of Ljubljana is the oldest and largest higher education and institution in Slovenia. It is also the largest research institution in Slovenia, with 30 percent of all registered researchers. The Faculty of Arts is a founding member of the University of Ljubljana and has been educating students since 1919. It is the largest of all faculties in Slovenia, both in terms of the number of students and the number of courses offered by its 21 departments. The faculty promotes scientific research, opens up new scientific fields, develops interdisciplinarity and introduces new study programmes for its students. As an academic community born out of the Enlightenment project, the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana is also committed to the values of humanity, freedom, solidarity, equality, including gender equality, and justice.
The Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts provides an in-depth theoretical approach to the study of cultural sociology, incorporating knowledge of classical sociology while developing analytical foundations based on the latest epistemological and theoretical shifts in the field of humanities and social sciences. This is also the framework for the department's research activities.
The Research Fellows will spend the one-year term in residence at the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, starting in October 2023. The Fellows are expected to pursue a research project of their own and to teach one English-language course during one of the semesters. They will be also invited to make a public presentation of their work in Spring Semester 2024.
The vacancies are open to scholars in Social Sciences, including but not limited to Sociology, Social Work, Gender Studies, Sexuality Studies, Political Science, Public Policies. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, social justice, solidarity, human rights, intersectionality, community-based research in gender justice, LGBTQ studies, social movements, gender-based violence, and similar.
Application requirements:
- Ukrainian citizens residing in Ukraine or who resided in Ukraine until February 24, 2022.
- Holding a PhD in social sciences or humanities.
- Highly proficient in spoken and written English.
Doctoral degree should have been completed at the date of the Call deadline.

- Research proposal (2500 words or maximum 5 pages)
- Personal statement (500 words or maximum 1 page)
- Copy of PhD certificate, accompanied with a non-certified English translation if the initial document is not in English
- Copy of passport
- Certificate of Proficiency in English (or any other proof of proficiency in English).
